Altaura FarmVisit our farm in Altaura, Casale di Scodosia (PD) - VenetoIt is an ancient farmland of 26 hectares. It has been cultivated according to the method of organic agriculture which offers visitors both big and small the possibility to discover the traditional life of the farmer, the fields, and the animals on the farm. The creeks and hedges create a healthy and luxurious vegetative zone - an oasis for wildlife. A mixed forest of Ash, Oak, Walnut, Hazelnut, and Paulownie trees covers half of the farms acreage. An entire hectare is cultivated solely for the support of wild animals.
Wheat, corn, soy, and medicinal herbs are cultivated over twelve hectares. Sheep find refuge under the Kiwi trees, that the geese and chickens use to make their nests. The donkeys and the cows prefer the shade of the Paulownie trees, while the rabbits have their pens out in the open air. We can observe, from the safety of a special screened shed, the queen bee, her drones, and worker bees that also live upon the property. We may even taste the honey directly from the hive. Baby donkeys, calves, rabbits, piglets, chicks, lambs, and goat-kids are all friendly. All these animals you may pet while holding them in your very arms. Or you may choose to learn the art of weaving upon an ancient loom using traditional tools. The farm also offers laboratory studies in greater depth on specific topics such as biodiversity, the safeguarding of seeds, the well-being of animals, and co-op construction. Additional laboratory study focuses upon biotechnology, the biomass boiler, a variety of fowl, as well as all about the insects that populate an organic farm. As for hospitality, besides the spacious outdoors, there are historic annexes of the 17th century Villa Correr, the restored stalls, the grand portico (which today houses all of the harvesting tools), and the former ‘essicatori’ - the given name for buildings where massive bales of tobacco were once dried. All of this has been recently restored with all the modern conveniences necessary for a comfortable stay. Our lodgings include private bathrooms. A banquet room is also available for meetings and events. And, all accommodation comes decorated in a simple - as well as familiar - taste.
