Garden of the Librino District - Catania, July 2012

I participated in a volunteer’s work camp in Catania which was held from the 8th to the 18th of July. The camp was organized by the Association for Helping Children. I became familiar with the courageous efforts of the Association Talita Kumin, the Association shows to minors, who live within the district of Librino in Catania, a view of life other than that which they are accustomed to seeing every day. I absolutely loved the determination of the manager, Giuliana. She happily told me that, in carrying out the project, Talita Kumin just managed to acquire one thousand square meters within the district Librino which have now been put to use growing vegetables with, and for, the children. The children work the garden with great enthusiasm. Giuliana is very pleased!

Thank you for your belief in overcoming difficulties in order to achieve your goals Giuliana. You have given me much reason for courage.

Garden of the cooperative "Perspectives" in San Giovanni Galermo - Catania, July 2012

While I was participating in a volunteer’s work camp in Catania which was held from the 8th to the 18th of July, a camp which was organized by the Association for Helping Children, I got to know those person responsible for the Cooperative Perspectives project in San Giovanni Galermo, Catania. The Community’s accommodation houses children between the ages of 10 and 18 who are temporarily without a suitable family environment and may, therefore, be under the direction of civil or administrative action from the ‘Judicial Juvenile’. Glauco introduced us to some of the project’s guests and showed us the facilities which house them. Focused on the garden, there is very little to distract the young guests from the activities with which they have such a great enthusiasm for. This includes caring for the kitchen also. The facility receives support for their aims through the furnishing of raw materials. What satisfaction these endeavors bring! And, what a beautiful serene atmosphere was enjoyed the final night, when a party was held for the children.
